About the store

Experience

I have taught 12 years in Wake County School System, Raleigh, North Carolina, teaching 4th and 5th grade in elementary school and 6th grade math and science. In 2005, I earned my National Board Certification for K-6.

Teaching style

I prefer to create my own lesson plans, using real-life, hands-on activities when possible. I have tons of experience in curriculum mapping, differentiation, and accommodations for varied learning styles and special needs.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been nominated for teacher-of-the-year for 11 of my 12 years teaching..

My own education history

I went back to school in mid-life to become a teacher. I feel fortunate to have attended California State University in Dominguez Hills, California. CSUDH began as a college for training teachers for the Los Angeles School System, so the curriculum was specifically designed to give teachers a broad education across all subjects in addition to regular teacher instruction classes, incorporating the latest pedagogy and methods. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for my graduating class. In 2005 I earned my National Board Certification.

Additional biographical information

For two years, I wrote and reviewed questions developed at North Carolina State University that were to be used for standardized test questions throughout the state, meeting state curriculum goals and objectives..
