I have been teaching for 9 years in a title one school. After my first year of teaching I looped up with my Kindergarteners to first grade, which was a wonderful experience. I then went back to Kindergarten where I truely love it.
This document is an excel spreadsheet that enables the user to type in student names and scores from the common core math and reading assessment that I have for purchase also. It shows the growth that student make over the course of the year. It also has spreadsheets that allows users to type in the skills that students are week in and makes it easier to pull small skill groups.
At my school, my team and I use this to record the scores from the reading and math assessments that I have in my
This is an assessment that covers most of the common core standards that can be assessed using performance based tasks. I have also added patterning and colors because I feel they are very important skills for Kindergarten. The following standards are assessed:
Counting and Cardinality
K.CC.1
K.CC.2
K.CC.3
K.CC.4abc
K.CC.5
K.CC.6
K.CC.7
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
K.OA.1
K.OA.2
K.OA.3
K.OA.4
K.OA.5
Number and Operations in Base Ten
K.NBT.1
Measurement and Data
K.MD.1
K.MD.2
K.MD.3
This activity includes cards that can be used in Kagan structures: Numbered Heads Together, Quiz Quiz Trade, and Fan-n-Pick; one student worksheet; lesson plan. I designed this activity as lesson one for this standard. It correlates with the common core standard K.OA.5.
Teacher Prep: Students need two dice and counters. Print
out mats and laminate.
Directions: Students pick the mats according to what game
they will play (one more or one less). Player one tosses the dice
and adds them up. The will then decide what number is one more
or one less and put a counter on that number. Players take turns
tossing dice and placing counters on game boards. The player
that has four counters in a row is the winner.
Jungle roll helps students master the common core standard K.CC.2, which is counting on. Students roll a die and write the number on the die. They then write the 3 numbers that follow.
This game helps students master the common core math standards K.CC.6 and K.CC.7, which are identifing numbers that are greater, less than, or equal to and comparing numbers in written form.
The idea of this game is from the Sister's site. I adapted it to fit into this common core standard.
Partners take turns rolling two dice and adding the numbers. The person rolling then places a marker on the game board's number that corresponds to the sum. If a number is rolled and the corresponding space has one of each players pieces on it, the player who rolled can "bump" their opponent off and take control of the space. Once a player has control, they cannot be bumped.
Materials: number mat for each player or pairs, two cow counters or other counters for each player.
Directions:
1.The first player drops two counters onto the number mat.
2.The player tells their partner the two numbers and then has to tell a subtraction or addition number story. (I would only choose one)
3.The player then illustrates their number story and writes the equation to match. (Students need to understand the greatest number goes first.)
I have also included cow counters if
K.CC.1
Players: 2 to 4
Objective: Students will learn coordinates, number recognition, and letter identification.
Teacher Prep: 2 dice- one regular and one programmed with the letters A-F. Print out four of the mats for four players.
Directions:
Each student needs 10 counters. Players take turns rolling the dice and finding the coordinates. They put a counter on the coordinates rolled. The first player to use all counters is the winner.
Standards: SWBAT: Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtractions as taking apart and taking from.
K.OA.1- represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, action out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
K.OA.2- Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, eg., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Materials: 2 counters per student, worksheet
Directions: Use a 10 sided die or label a die with random numbers. Students will write down the number on the first blank and then write the numbers that come after. You could also label 5 dice with different numbers and students pick one die for each number on the recording sheet. Below are labels for the box.
Teacher Prep: Copy the recording sheet and cut in half. You can either laminate it or make multiple copies for students. Prepare the dice.
This game helps students master the common core math standard K.CC.5, which is count and tell ,"how many?". If you like this game check out my others at a low cost.
