Students are to sketch the equation(s) and use the graphic organizer to set up the appropriate integral(s) to find the volume of the solid created when rotating the curve around an axis. Students have trouble when they have to set up two integrals. They also have trouble recognizing when to put the equation in terms of y.

Students are given 6 different trigonometric functions containing either sine or cosine as well as 21 leaves with characteristics describing amplitude, period, reflection, vertical shift, and range. They are to match each leaf with the appropriate tree. This can be used to assess students’ understanding of the content before graphing or as a review before a test.

Experience

Teaching style

I love engaging students in discussion through discovery tasks and providing opportunities for collaboration. I consider myself to be a facilitator and scaffold their learning to help them be successful. I create an environment of respect and support students through their frustrations to teach them perseverance, giving all students chances to grow as mathematicians.

My own education history

I earned my BA in Mathematics and Chemistry with Secondary Teaching Certification in 2009 and my Master's in Education for Curriculum and Instruction in 2013.

Additional biographical information
