In this lesson, children will explore the mysterious pictures and captions left behind by a man by the name of Harris Burdick. Students will use their imagination to come up with their own mysteries stories to go along with these mysterious pictures. This is a great lesson to do with your students around Halloween, or during a mystery unit.
This document can be used in conjunction with the book Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. I created it to use during Lit Circle discussions in class. Each chapter has between 5-10 questions, along with vocabulary words with page numbers provided.
This outline will help your students in writing a biography on a famous person of their choice. Once given the outline, I had the students make a notecard for each of the different letters on the outline, and get them checked off before they could move onto the next one. The system worked really well, and the students created some great papers.

This activity will allow children to retell the story of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by making their own creative story wheel. There are two circles provided. One with pictures, and the other blank. I use the blank one to have the students cut out one wedge for the top of the wheel, and decorate the top to look like their favorite kind of cookie.

This is a graphic organizer I use during my Guided Reading unit. Students reflect on three different types of connections within their Guided Reading text: text to text, text to self,and text to world. The need to defend two examples for each type.
With this project, students will research a country of their choosing. This activity will allow students to learn about a certain countrys' language, cultural beliefs, traditional food/clothing, as well as their economic, political and family structure.
Students will create a visual aid (Culture Poster), create a student handout, as well as give a presentation on their given country.
As extra credit, students may bring in a cultural dish to share with the class.
