Experience

Hi, I'm Sara. I have over twenty-five years in the field of early childhood education and I love designing practical and effective lesson plans around high-quality children's literature.

Teaching style

My philosophy can be described as play-based simplicity. I strongly believe that young children need rich, hands-on open-ended play experiences to become active, engaged learners. My lessons center on simple experiences with real materials and encourage children to think deeply and develop their confidence and creativity. I believe that the best experiences for preschoolers can also be the simplest! Here's what makes Begin With a Book lessons different: -low teacher prep, high impact on learning goals -step-by-step walk throughs to make sure things go smoothly the first time -activities that are adaptable and work alongside various curricular approaches -aligned with common learning standards and Science of Reading principles
