This 50 Coping Strategies Activity comes with an organized list of 50 appropriate coping skills for younger learners. Typically, I will print and laminate the sheets then cut each individual option out and place in a jar When the learner is escalated/upset/feeling "red" I will prompt them to choose a coping skill from their jar.
Here you will receive a visual task analysis for your child to use to learn how to wash their hands. Post this on the mirror at home or at school for a visual reminder of each step.
Here you will receive 2 visual task analysis for wiping surfaces in the home and sweeping the floor. You can begin by presenting this visual to your child and eventually fading it out, so they are able to complete these chores without extra assistance.
Here you will receive a handout containing a list of household chores by age appropriateness. You may give this to parents so they can see where their child needs extra help with home skills and prioritize skills to teach.
Here, you will receive a visual I use when client's need assistance with coping skills. It's easier to show them a visual and they point to their choice of coping skill rather than directly telling them to engage in a coping skill. No one likes to talk when they're upset and that's okay. This can help with that : )
I used this system as a DRL for lowering non-functional yelling/screaming behavior. Each yell, I would remove a face and once all faces were removed, the client was no longer allowed to yell, and I would no longer reinforce the behavior.
