Experience

Hi! I’m Jocelyn Beldman, a certified music educator (BMT, MTA, MME) and the owner of Bell’s Studio in St. John’s, Antigua. Teaching style

My teaching style is strongly influenced by the Kodály approach, with singing at the heart of everything I do. I believe music literacy should grow out of rich musical experience, not precede it. In my classroom, students sing daily, developing inner hearing, pitch accuracy, and rhythmic understanding before attaching labels to notation. We experience, explore, practice, and perform musical concepts long before we formally name them. Through sequential, sound-before-symbol learning, students build deep understanding rather than surface recognition. I value musicianship as much as literacy, and I strive to develop confident, expressive musicians who understand music from the inside out.
