This cross-curricular Socials Studies unit follows the novel “A Long Walk to Water.” This year-long unit focuses on the rights of the child, government, aboriginal issues, as well as the literary elements of the story. Attached is a lesson from a unit on Teachers Pay Teachers. It takes students of any age through a series of stories, discussions and activities, having them look at who they are and the factors that have contributed to the development of their identity. These include looking at culture, beliefs, family, friends and community influences.
