This is my seventh year of teaching--and I love it! Yes, everyday is a challenge, but I face that challenge head-on. I work with a difficult group of children, coming from homes where survival is far more important that completing their homework. I am determined to do well and continue with this passion for as long as I am able to do so!
By completing this worksheet, students will be able to practice writing, solving, and graphing one and two-step inequalities. This classroom-tested worksheet is best used after instruction or for spiral review while preparing for a test. An answer key is included. Bethany Smith's first free product! More items to come soon.
It's that time of year again! Summer is almost here and everyone is getting antsy. Instead of fighting and trying to learn new things, let's demonstrate our understanding of concepts we have already learned this year. Here is a fun, creative way for us to show each other what we have learned. These projects can really be adapted for most grade levels, but will work best for grades 6 through 9. The projects include, writing a picture book, creating a PowerPoint/poster, performing a skit, or
This classroom tested lesson is a fun way to apply ratios and proportions to the real world. Included is a warm-up reviewing fraction operations, a worksheet all about planning a trip to the beach (called Beach Time Ratios and Proportions), a memory game that requires students to evaluate a proportion and find its matching answer card, and a one-question exit ticket to give you the opportunity to quickly evaluate how your students have done with understanding the concepts within this lesson. A
This quiz is a classroom-tested creation. This was made to test students' abilities with recognizing the order of rational numbers, but especially negative numbers. Students often label, for example, -2 ½ incorrectly to the right of the -2 because on the positive side of the number line, 2 ½ goes to the right of 2. After instructing how to correctly place integers on a number line, then students should be able to complete this quiz with an acceptable grade. Enjoy!
Hello all! This is one of my creations that I am probably most proud of! On the first slide, directions are provided. On each slide, the pirate directions will appear, then the coordinate plane will rotate, then the correct figure placement will appear. I also provide a student hand-out sheet with each of the coordinate planes on it so that each problem can be performed by each student. This Rotations Presentation Worksheet can be purchased for $1.00. Enjoy!
This lesson is designed to continue to develop student understanding of the measures of central tendency, which are mean, median and mode. This lesson includes a task, class activity, exit ticket, and homework assignment with a "part two" that could be used as a second homework or an extension in class the next day. Enjoy!
This is a fantastic review tool to assess what students have learned in your classroom this year! This has been in my classroom as a year-end project and creates a fun presentation day when all of the games get played! Students enjoy getting to show their creative side and spend a class period rotating in stations playing each others games. At the end of the class, I have my students write "reviews" of the games that they played, adding a personal touch. Rubric and schedule are included.
Do you need something quick and easy for emergency sub plans? Are you at the end of the year and at your wit's end trying to find something that will keep your students engaged? Then look no further! Here we have a math worksheet that has been created to be completed while viewing the completely child-appropriate Finding Nemo. There are both math questions, for review purposes, and questions in regards to the content of the movie, to ensure they are actually paying attention. This classroom
This project is a great assessment for one, two, and multi-step equations--not to mention it's a lot of fun! Allow students to be creative when designing their theme park and rides. This classroom-tested project is a hit with all! Rubric included.
Enjoy the underwater imagery while practicing solving one and two step equations that involve integers. This activity is meant to be used towards the beginning of the unit to refresh student memories on both solving equations and applying integer rules. It also gets your students up and out of their seats, waking up their brains a little!
This activity set includes:
~Direction sheet for teacher
~Answer Key
~Student worksheet (two on one page to save paper!)
~8 full page station sheets to hang
Does the end of the year have your students a little restless? Give them the opportunity to put some practical concepts to use! Through this activity, students will conduct a survey that allows them to conduct a simple experiment and determine how random or biased sampling affects survey results. This activity can be as free or as structured as you like--it's very versatile! I hope you and your students enjoy this experience!
This worksheet has been created to accompany the Rotations PowerPoint Presentation. If you choose, though, this sheet can also be purchased simply as practice for rotations. The PowerPoint that accompanies this worksheet is a wonderful tool that teaches students simple directions to complete a transformation that is widely known as one of the most difficult transformations to complete. I hope you enjoy!

Experience
This is my seventh year of teaching--and I love it! Yes, everyday is a challenge, but I face that challenge head-on. I work with a difficult group of children, coming from homes where survival is far more important that completing their homework. I am determined to do well and continue with this passion for as long as I am able to do so!
Teaching style
I am a very hands-on teacher. Even though sometimes worksheets and repetitive practice are necessary, I enjoy making learning math a fun experience. I try to do this through games and challenges where I force students to think and persevere to get to their answer.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Even though I have yet to be publically recognized by an offical for the work I have done, I am awarded everyday by students who say, "I love your class, Mrs. Smith." If it weren't for these moments, I wouldn't love my job as much as I do :)
My own education history
I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I was always a very studious person, earning nothing below a B for my entire educational life (K through college senior).I love learning--it is my passion. My goal is to pass that passion on to my students, hopefully producing a new, excited generation of educators.
