This three-part culminating project for A Long Walk to Water was a hit with my class! After reading the book, they worked in small groups to develop a presentation to riase funds for a solution to the water situation in Sudan. They took it very seriously, and learned a lot about how to put together a proposal in addition to working through the engineering and science required for many of their ideas. I like to find out a little about muy middle schoolers' attitudes towards reading and writing, and I find this is a non-threatening way to get a little info! Also, they really like to use highlighters.
