Use this at the start of your circles unit. Page 3 of this document is an overview of the parts of a circle. Pages 4 and 5 make up a foldable that summarizes area and circumference of circles. This activity is a great way to get away from traditional lecture-style note-taking. Rather than having students sitting at their desks with their eyes on you, post pages 3 – 5 around the room, and have students walk around to take notes. Students fill in their notes (pg. 6 – 7) at their own pace. Then, students independently, or in pairs, complete the three practice problems (pg. 7). I like to have the answers to those 3 problems posted somewhere in the room for students to check their own work

This activity is great for practice while learning the concept and for review. Have students partner up. One partner receives Version A and the other receives Version B. Together they will work on problems 1 – 3. This allows students to work have discussions and help each other. Then, students independently solve problems 4 – 6. This independent work time serves as a check for understanding. Notice, version A and version B have the same problems 1 – 3, but problems 4 – 6 are different. This wil
