About the store
I began teaching junior high school students with the promise to move to high school at the first available opening. However, after the first year I realized that junior high students were my favorite. Consequently, I spent 15 years teaching and coaching math teams at that level. I have served as an assistant principal, then principal for grades k-8 and taught as an adjunct math instructor for two junior colleges. Currently I serve as the secondary curriculum and special education coordinator for the school system where I began teaching.

Aunt Brenda's Goldfish: Counting to 100

Counting to 100 by ones, twos, fives, tens and twenties is easy and fun with this book. I really have an Aunt Brenda whose goldfish really had babies. there weren't 100 of them but I made up the story and drew the pictures as I taught my own daughters to count. I have also read the book (and used goldfish crackers) on the 100th day of school with k-2nd graders.

About the store

Experience

I began teaching junior high school students with the promise to move to high school at the first available opening. However, after the first year I realized that junior high students were my favorite. Consequently, I spent 15 years teaching and coaching math teams at that level. I have served as an assistant principal, then principal for grades k-8 and taught as an adjunct math instructor for two junior colleges. Currently I serve as the secondary curriculum and special education coordinator for the school system where I began teaching.

Teaching style

I make sure that everyone participates in class everyday. I believe all students have to be engaged in the classroom. Mathematics is second only to language arts in importance. I've told my students that mathematics teaches you to think and the language arts teach you to express yourself. If you can do those two things you can accomplish anything.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Twice recognized as Secondary Teacher of the Year by my school system. Coached math teams which were competive at the state level.

My own education history

Under-graduate degree in both math and history from the University of South Alabama. Master's degree in secondary math from the University of Alabama. Administrative endorsement from the University of Alabama.
