Students use context clues to guess the word's meaning. Students are given one question and told: Answer the question using only one clue, your team receives three points. Answer the question using two clues, your team receives two points. Answer the question using three clues, your team receives one points.

This activity leads advanced English students in AP Language and Composition, AP Literature or British Literature through writing their own Modest Proposal.

Students write an imitation of Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography so that they must read it to write their own piece.
