Blake Rowe has been teaching elementary music since 1989. He uses his own blend of Orff/Dalcroze/Kodaly and simple trial and error to find what works. He now teaches at the Fieldston Lower School in Bronx, NY.
Teaching style
Fun but no-nonsense. Activities are often student-led and focus on student discovery vs teacher-imposed knowledge. Songs are taught along with movement and/or percussion instruments to reinforce kinesthetic and motor memory in tandem with lyrics and melody.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Parents Choice Award for "It's a Lazy Day'; a self published recording of original songs for children. Honorable Mention for 'Circle of Life' by the Children's Music Web Awards, his second recording of songs for children.
My own education history
Piano major, BM, Manhattan School of Music. Attended Peabody Conservatory, was a member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, and taught with the Metropolitan Opera Guild as a residency program to facilitate the writing, production and performance of original operas by grade-school children.

Blake is an avid gardener and environmentalist, loves to hike, practices meditation, and co-founded www.ecobags.com with his wife Sharon in 1989.
