This is an editable (word doc) missing addends worksheet with both addition and subtraction problems. Feel free to change the equations to differentiate for your students and use for multiple days of practice. The credit for the clipart on the worksheet goes to clipartxtras.com.
This worksheet is a great opportunity for students to get up and moving as they measure objects around the classroom with a partner. A blank space is left at the bottom for students to measure an object of their choice with their choice of a non-standard unit.
I created this product to be used with 4th Grade Math Expressions Unit 6 lesson 1. I placed dominoes around the room (they surprisingly hold up well with masking tape) and students went on a scavenger hunt for them. They wrote the fraction that each domino represented and wrote it as a sum of unit fractions and a product of a whole number and a unit fraction. They had a lot of fun! It went fairly quickly so if you are looking for a longer activity, I would make multiple copies of the back page.
I made this work mat to help my students organize their work for comparing fractions. I was amazed at how much it helped them. They finally caught on and know the steps to compare fractions with unlike denominators. I hope it helps your students as much as it helped mine! Just print and slip in a sheet protector and the students can reuse it over and over again to solve any comparison problem.
