Chemical Reactions video demo with balancing, naming, writing reactions practice

This is a great, easy activity to practice balancing chemical reactions. It is also great if you haven't been able to show a lot of cool reactions in the classroom this gives them some visuals of cool reactions. I usually go to the hyperlink for the students and show the videos of the reactions to the class and talk through what is happening. It would be a great assignment for them to do on their own as well though or even a sub assignment. They would need access to the internet though to watch

This lab uses easy cheap materials you probably already have and reviews, mol to mol, mol to gram, and gram to gram problems with one limiting reactant question at the end. I used it to review at the end of my unit in chemistry. Easy to set up but brings the point home!

I used this activity right after I taught the history of atomic structure. It really made it more apparent how amazing the scientists were that developed atomic theory because they had to design experiments for things they could not see. Science is where engagement can flourish in high school. Nothing can be more magical and empowering than understanding how the world works around you. I use labs and hands on activities a whole lot in my classroom and aim to spark discussions about actual science phenomenon happening all around us.
