This is a power point that talks about consumer and community health. Great presentation for a health class or any other class talking about these subjects. Ways to stay healthy in the community and different regulations that are going on with health. The definitions, entertainment, advertising, and video game violence are some of the topics. Understanding these health options are important. Video links and resources are provided on the last page of the presentation.

These posters can be hung throughout the school, in classrooms, and in health classes to bring awareness to various health topics. They are bright and catch the eye so that students will read them and find out valuable information. Ideas range from ways to stay healthy using hygiene, physical activity, and nutrition. Creating healthy habits and awareness of health topics is important in every school. Print them out, laminate them and put them in your classroom for students to see.

Experience

I am currently in my 3rd year of teaching in the Magic Capital of the World, Colon, MI! My first year and a half was teaching physical education and health for grades 7-12 and the last year and a half I have been teaching elementary physical education grades K-6. My mother has been a special education teacher for 35+ years and both my older brother and younger sister are currently employed teachers, have to keep it in the family!

Teaching style

I am a likeable teacher who has a great relationship with the students. I enjoy teaching students physical education and do everything in my power for them to be successful in the P.E. classroom. We play lots of games where cooperation, positivity and teamwork are essential. As a marathon and ultramarathon runner, I see the importance in physical fitness and incorporate those ideas into my everyday teaching.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In my second year of teaching I was nominated as teacher of the year in the elementary school. I saw that as an honor to be nominated in only my second year.

My own education history

I graduated from Lumen Christi Catholic HS in Jackson, MI. I then studied physical education and health at Albion College. As part of the Education Program requirements, I did my student teaching at Harper Creek HS in Battle Creek, MI. My GPA in college ended up a 3.4. Albion College is a small liberal arts school with Division 3 athletics. I played football and baseball all 4 years.

Additional biographical information

I live in Battle Creek, MI with my wife and large english mastiff, named Zeppelin! I have ran 3 marathons and 3 ultramarathons in the past year and hopefully will continue running. I coach football and baseball at the high school level. I love teaching physical education classes.
