Multiple Meaning Words, Dictionary Skills

This can be used for multiple meaning words, dictionary skills, or even parts of speech. In this worksheet, students are given multiple definitions for a word. Students must decide which definition goes with each example. Students should be encouraged to analyze the part of speech and possible synonyms. To increase the rigor of this activity, have students explain their answers. I have used this as a mini lesson, tutorial, focused test prep, homework, warmup, and classwork. Duck 1: Noun

Figurative Language Poetic Devices Techniques Practice

This is a great activity for figurative language and poetic devices. I have used it at multiple grade levels as a mini lesson for onomatopoeia, rhyming, alliteration, similes, metaphors, and personification. This activity includes a detailed key with extension questions for several of the examples. I use the extension questions as a way to increase rigor while checking the assignment. I like this assignment because it is easy to grade and easy to assess any confusion. There are multiple way

The Best Latitude and Longitude Lesson EVER!

Teaching latitude and longitude can be very frustrating. Students tend to confuse them. I separate latitude, longitude, and coordinates into 3 separate mini lessons taught on 3 separate days. Each lesson is about 20 minutes long. By teaching it this way, students confusing the terms. The first part of each lesson includes tactile learning by using yarn. The latitude lesson includes a map with only latitude, and the longitude lesson includes a map with only longitude lines. I love this lesso

Between the PowerPoint discussion, Principles Chart, and the Cut and Paste Activity students will move up Bloom’s taxonomy from identification to application. These activities cover multiple intelligences from auditory, visual, tactile-kinesthetic. I generally let students work together. With the lesson's paired assignments (if you choose to pair them), visual activities, and sentence stems are excellent for English Language Learners. This lesson includes: PowerPoint Use the PowerPoint to

Form for incomplete work and zeros

I use this form for students that don't turn in their work. The top copy goes home with the student, and the bottom copy remains with me for my documentation. I teach 8th grade, and I do call home when work is not turned in on time. This is great documentation for students that fail for the year.

Bubbling Quiz

This is the best way to show kids how important bubbling correctly is. Often they rush or refuse to check their bubbling. This activity is meant to demonstrate how easy it is to make a mistake. You can do this two ways. First, print both sheets so students have to flip the page. Second, read the correct answers aloud and have students bubble that way. This is useful especially before parent conferences. I would also consider timing the activity.
