This is a powerpoint presentation that summarizes The Odyssey. I created this for my 6th grade students to help give them the gist of this famous and important epic poem from ancient Greece. I looked all over the internet to find something similar and that was also easy to understand. I could find nothing like it, so I created my own! I use this powerpoint in conjunction with some worksheets (like a crossword puzzle with questions about the Odyssey, or an Odyssey match-up). I did not create

Experience

I have been a teacher for over two decades! I have taught in both elementary schools and middle schools. My main goal as a teacher over the years has been to send my students off with a love of learning. I often tell them to "Kiss Your Brain...It is working hard for you today!"

Teaching style

I believe that meaningful learning comes from a combination of explicit instruction, cooperative learning, the gradual release of responsibility, and most importantly continual and constructive feedback of student work. Lessons and units should be student-centered, and should be able to be accessed by students from anywhere! This is why I am a fan of Sway, a presentation tool from Office 365. I can email my students these presentations and they can access them from anywhere, and complete lessons at their own pace!

Additional biographical information

One thing that I LOVE to do is create comprehensive and interactive units. I like to think about the group of students that I have, what I need to teach, and how it can best be taught and then create a unit with those 3 elements in mind. I have had great success with my units and find that my students both enjoy and learn from each one!
