Meter can be a tricky thing to teach. That's why I created this mini unit where students learn about meter by playing a basic rock beat. No drum set? No problem! I show the students how to play a rock groove using body percussion or found sounds. Students learn about: - Strong and weak beats - Steady pulse - Time Signatures (2/4, 3/4 and 4/4) - The parts of a drum set - Body Percussion INCLUDED IN THIS Product - A Google Slideshow with ready to use visuals for teaching - Three Video Lessons

Experience

I’m Brian Gossard, a Maryland State Certified Music Teacher with 15+ years in classrooms. I’ve built a well trusted YouTube music education channel and I love what I do.

Teaching style

Imagine if Bill Nye taught music... It's kind of like that.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teachers across the country already use my songs daily — in morning meetings, transitions, and SEL lessons. My work is trusted because it’s not just entertaining — it works in the classroom. The best “award” I’ve earned is when kids ask their teachers to “play that song again.”

My own education history

I earned my degree in Music from Towson University, in Maryland. I’ve also studied Dalcroze, with a particularly influential teacher, Keith Derrickson (Who like Bach has gone forgotten in his own time, but will one day be revered). That upon my experience in the world of almost being a famous punk rock singer, has called me to what I do now. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Additional biographical information

I earned my degree in Music from Towson University, in Maryland and as moderately alustrious as that may seem, I’ve also studied Dalcroze, with a particularly influential teacher, Keith Derrickson (Who like Bach has under apprecited in his own time, but will one day be revered). That upon along with my experience of being an almost famous pop-punk/emo singer, has called me to what I do now. I wouldn't have it any other way.
