About the store

Experience

I am an experienced primary school teacher with a strong focus on clear instruction, curriculum design, and practical classroom resources. My teaching experience spans multiple year levels in primary education, with particular expertise in literacy, grammar instruction, and supporting beginning teachers. I regularly design structured learning sequences and teaching materials that help students build confidence in reading, writing, and grammar. Many of the resources in this store were created for use in my own classroom and refined through real classroom practice. Through BrightLight Learning, I aim to provide clear, practical resources that support effective teaching and strong student learning outcomes.

Teaching style

My teaching approach focuses on clear, structured instruction that builds student confidence step by step. I believe students learn best when complex skills are broken into manageable parts and taught through explicit modelling, guided practice, and meaningful application. In literacy and grammar instruction, I emphasise helping students understand how language works, not just memorising rules. Students are given opportunities to recognise patterns, practise new skills, and apply their understanding in both reading and writing. My classroom practice is also strongly influenced by structured literacy approaches and the Science of Reading, ensuring that students develop strong foundational skills that support long-term learning success. The resources I create reflect this approach: clear, uncluttered, classroom-ready materials that support effective teaching and practical learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Some of my most meaningful moments as a teacher come from the relationships I build with students, families, and colleagues. I take great pride in creating classrooms where students feel supported, capable, and excited about learning. Hearing from students who feel proud of their progress, and from parents who see their children growing in confidence, are some of the most rewarding parts of my work. Within my school community I am respected for my commitment to strong teaching practice, thoughtful curriculum design, and supporting colleagues, including mentoring beginning teachers as they develop their confidence in the classroom.

My own education history

I hold a university qualification in primary education (Honours) and am a qualified experienced senior primary school teacher. My professional training focused on literacy development, curriculum planning, and effective classroom instruction and behaviour management. Throughout my teaching career I have continued to develop my practice through professional learning in structured literacy approaches, explicit instruction, and evidence-informed teaching practices. My classroom experience and ongoing professional learning inform the resources I create for BrightLight Learning, ensuring they are practical, structured, and aligned with effective teaching practices.

Additional biographical information

I am a primary school teacher with a passion for literacy, language, and helping students develop confidence in reading and writing. Alongside my work in the classroom, I am also a fantasy author, which reflects my lifelong love of storytelling and imagination. My experience as both a teacher and a writer shapes the resources I create. I believe strong grammar and language knowledge give students the tools they need to express their ideas clearly, creatively, and confidently. Through BrightLight Learning, I aim to provide practical classroom resources that support teachers while helping students build the foundational skills they need for lifelong learning.
