About the store
I began my career working in a multi-lingual preschool, followed by working with 8-11 year old students in a substantially separate school who struggled with emotional and behavioral challenges. After that I worked as a special educator in a 6th grade inclusion program for 15 years. Currently I am in my second year teaching general education math in a 6th grade public school. My certifications are in Early Childhood, Special Ed (K-8th), and Middle School Math (6-8).

Math Connections to the Real World
Students really enjoyed this activity which focused on volume and surface area. After their math calculations and explanations were complete, students brought in their rectangular or triangular prisms wrapped like a present. Their peers then had a gallery walk and compared their calculations to the original. Finally the "presents" were opened and students shared the items inside their prisms!

Students are asked to look within their house, apartment, public library, school, or any other indoor space. Students are then asked to identify a connection to math by providing a photo and written explanation.
