What Is My Function?
This activity is designed to introduce students to some of the functions used in Algebra I and Algebra II. Many times students are provided the functions one at a time and never truly understand how to differentiate between them. Using many representations of the functions allows the students to see different ways a function can exist. Includes linear, quadratic, exponential, and absolute value functions.

Algebra 1 Journal Notes Worksheets Growing Bundle
Included are the worksheets that I use with my Algebra 1 Semester 1 Journal Notes. This bundle is growing. The worksheets are not in any specific order. They can be used with my Algebra 1 Semester 1 Journals notes or independently.

Parallel Lines and Transversals Quiz
This is a quiz that requires students to "write" the definitions and to tell the angles that satisify the definition. It includes: vertical, linear pairs, alternate exterior/interior, same-side exterior/interior, adjacent angles, and corresponding angles. A picture of parallel lines with angles numbered is included.

Circle and Parabola Graphing Assignment
This is a graphing activity using circles and parabolas in vertex form. Students have to identify the center and radius of circles, vertex, c, focus, and directrix of parabolas. The final image is a smiley face.

This is practicing function notation that ends with a drawing of a cat face. Skills include function notation and graphing points.

Solving One-step Equations Unit
This is a little different take on solving one-step equations. Students are presented with all 4 of the basic types of equations at one time. They are required to identify the operation used in the problem, the inverse operation needed to solve it, and to solve problems. Notes, worksheets, and a quiz are included in the unit.

Linear Key Features - Multiple Representations
My students were having problems with realizing all the linear forms represent the same information. I print one copy and add the information I want the students to use to complete the rest of the paper before printing. You will have to add points for parallel, perpendicular, and point-slope forms. I have provided a linear graph with open and closed circles for students to get formulas for them to practice domain and range. I completed several papers with the students before they started fee

Investigation of Functions
Students will investigate ordered pairs, mappings, and graphs. Given both functions and non-functions, students will develop the definition of function. This hands-on interactive activity can be completed alone or in groups. A Knowledge Quick Check is included at the end of the activity. This lesson should be completed in 1 or 2 class periods.

I have been teaching for 22 years. The last 20 years have been on the high school level teaching mathematics. I have also taught College Algebra and Statistics.
Teaching style
To be honest, I don't have one teaching style. I use a variety of methods in order to reach my students. It just depends. I do believe all willing students learn. Unwilling students are the challenges we as teachers face. I'm just not the type of teacher to give up on them. I want to be the teacher they need and continue needing in their lives as they move on in the world. It's always a pleasure to hear from my previous students.

My own education history
I began college full-time in 1999 with two small children. (Aaron 2, Lucas 4 months) I took 52 hours that year. It really seems like a blur looking back. I finished my Bachelors in August of 2000 with an emphasis on Early Childhood. My first job was Special Ed in grades Pre-K through 8th. I moved out of Special Ed into 3rd grade. (not my favorite year) Doing so provided me the opportunity to gain my Masters in Public School Mathematics in 2006. I kept going and earned my Principal's certification.
I believe I'm two courses short of my Masters in Mathematics.
Additional biographical information
I have been married to the love of my life for 27 years. Lee and I have three boys. Aaron is 25, Lucas is 24, and Samuel is 21.
We also have our dog, Fred, and cat, Smokey.
We enjoy fishing and remodeling stuff.
I personally enjoy watching hummingbirds and other wildlife and photography outside of teaching mathematics.
