10 years of teaching 8th grade. Over the year I have worked on developing resources that are engaging while maintaining a high level or rigor that will allow students to reach full potential.
This project is one of students favorite. Students are given a certain amount of money to invest in a savings account. They have three accounts to choose from with both simple and compound interest rates. Students will then use their savings for a down payment on a car and decided on a car loan that best fits their need. Students will also calculate car monthly payment, and total monthly expenses based on car insurance and gas budget. Be aware that it does take some time to complete. Students ca
Have students practice the skill of writing linear equations in slope intercept from from a table or given m and b. They will also have the opportunity to review the concept of building a table and plotting points
Students must be able to identify the y-intercept and slope from a given equation in order to graph accurately. Students need to understand the concept of rise over run, so that they can differentiate between positive and negative slope. As with positive I move up, and with negative I move down. Usually takes students about 45 minutes to complete.
I use this activity as a "get to know you" during the first week of school in 8th grade. But, it is also a great activity to use when you first introduce graphing points on all four quadrants. All students need to do is graph the points of all true statements about them, connect the points as they go, and shade in their final shape with their favorite color. Please read a review if you enjoyed the activity!
These worksheets allow students to cover the topic of functional relationships and can be used as notes, independent practice or during class instruction. It covers TEKS 8.5G and STAAR like questions with various levels of rigor and understanding are also in the second worksheet "Two Truths and a Lie". Please be aware that although domain and range are covered in algebra, for the second worksheet students do need a basic idea of how to list domain and range based on a set of points or domain map
This packet focuses on solving equations and inequalities, including word problems. The suggested duration for this unit is around 15-18 days, and covers TEKS 8.8A, 8.8B, 8.8C. All examples are comparable to STAAR state assessment level of rigor.

9 multi step problems focusing on budgeting for college tuition. Students should know some basics of budgeting such as savings versus loans, deposits versus withdraws, and calculating monthly payments. You can pair this worksheet with my FREE budgeting notes found in my TPT store. Covers TEKS 8.12G
This resource offers notes, extra practice and a solve and color activity on simple and compound interest rates. It covers TEKS 8.12A, 8.12C, 8.12D. Take a look at the document preview to view the entire document.
This product includes 3 worksheets. I use them for notes, independent practice, and partner work. But, you can use them according to your individual needs. They cover proportional relationships in the forms of tables, graphs and word problems. They cover TEKS 8.5F, and 8.5H. The third worksheet is based on STAAR like questions of various levels of rigor and understanding.
This file includes notes, homework, classwork, and knowledge checks for the Unit on Rational Numbers and Scientific Notation. The unit has an estimated suggested timeframe of 15 days to complete. It covers TEKS 8.2A, 8.2B, 8.2C, and 8.2D. All resources are created with the level of rigor that students will see on the STAAR state assessment. Please check out the file preview to determine if this resource is a good fit for you and your student needs.
Solving Equations with variables on both sides partner activity. Students will need to solve multi step equations along with a partner to identify matching solutions and complete the color by number picture. Students should know how to distribute, combine like terms, and use reverse operations to isolate the variable.

This activity reviews the angle sum theorem in a fun way by having students complete a heart tangram puzzle. Students should have a basic understanding of the angle sum theorem, and solving equations such as x+x+110=180.
In this worksheet students practice the angle sum theorem by solving for x. Students must have a good understanding of how to solve multi step equations for a few of the triangles. This worksheet is a great way to have students collaborate and check each others work. If you'd like students to have even more practice, have them solve both columns.
Transformational geometry: translation, reflection, rotation. Students get to practice transformation on the coordinate grid. Its a cute and easy worksheet students can work on during valentines day. I allow my students the use of patty paper to make it hands on. Print suggestion, select print multiple pages so that the graph is smaller and the patty paper cover its. I usually print 2 graphs per page and it works perfectly
BACK TO SCHOOL ACTIVITY. RATHER THAN HAVING THEM FILL OUT THE USUAL FAVORITE COLOR, BOOK, MOVIE ETC. HAVE STUDENTS MAKE AN INSTAGRAM PROFILE WHERE THEY TELL YOU WITH PICTURES AND HASHTAGS WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THEM. THIS IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO USE WITH MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
**Please leave a review of this free product. This product was created as a result of students not bothering to read and identify key terms during assignments/test. Both worksheets represent transformations on the coordinate plane and students are asked to analyze what is happening in order to fix the error. What is great about these worksheets is that it forces students to slow down and think about how each transformation changes or not changes an image. Students should have a basic understandi
**Please leave a review of this free product. This activity provides students with the opportunity to self-check their work. Students work in pairs. One student solves Form A, and the other Form B. Although their systems are different, their answers will be the same. This allows students to collaborate, analyze and teach each other by having them trade papers when their answers don't match.
