Experience

With over 10 years of experience teaching ESOL students across elementary, middle school, and adult learning environments, I specialize in supporting newcomer and developing English learners. My work in Title 1 schools has provided extensive experience differentiating instruction and creating structured language supports that help multilingual learners access grade-level content. I am passionate about creating differentiated resources that are ready to teach and tailored to meet diverse student needs. Drawing from my experience with my classes of students, I recognize the importance of pre-teaching key vocabulary, which is why I like to include vocabulary cards with simple definitions and engaging illustrations in my materials to support understanding when possible. This focus ensures that students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. I also enjoy benefiting from my background in graphic design to craft visually appealing and practical resources for both my students and fellow educators.

Teaching style

My teaching style focuses on structured language development, clear visual supports, and scaffolded instruction. I believe multilingual learners thrive when lessons are explicit, engaging, and thoughtfully differentiated. My resources are designed to build vocabulary, grammar, and academic language while helping students gain confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Additional biographical information

As a former ESOL learner, I know how hard it can be to navigate a new language, and that experience has stuck with me throughout my teaching career. I’m passionate about helping my students feel confident in speaking, reading, writing, and listening, and I try to create resources that make learning both accessible and meaningful for them. When it comes to teaching newcomers, I take a different approach to phonics than I would for non-ESOL students. I like to pair phonics instruction with vocabulary development so my students are not just learning how to decode words—they’re also building their understanding of what those words mean and how to use them. This way, they’re growing their vocabulary while laying the foundation for fluency and comprehension. I also enjoy using my graphic design background to create engaging, ready-to-teach resources. Preteaching key vocabulary with visuals has been a big focus for me because I’ve seen how much it helps my students. My goal is always to make learning approachable and fun while giving my students the tools they need to succeed.
