Pi Day: How Archimedes Approximated Pi

Why do we use 3.14 for pi? It all started with Archimedes over 2200 years ago. In this exploration perfect for pi day, students follow along as Archimedes sandwiched a circle with a diameter of 1 between two hexagons to find a lower and upper bound of pi. Students complete various part of the process, such as calculating perimeters and writing inequalities for the lower and upper bounds of pi. Teaching style

I like to focus on all components of math proficiency including conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, and adaptive reasoning, meeting students where they are. I enjoy trying to find ways to motivate students and make math fun!
