Students need a hands on activity to distinguish between perimeter and area problems. This product contains 25 task cards having students lie one inch square tiles on gridded areas and then writing the related multiplication number sentence.

40 Task cards in total. Students will sort 32 task cards into examples and non-examples of halves, fourths, and eighths. Students will practice partitioning geometric shapes into halves, fourths, and eighths on 8 task cards.

So, why should teachers use cuisenaire rods? The rods are the concrete math manipulative used to to aid students in problem solving. It should be started in first grade when students are limited to 20 in word problems. The outline of the rods becomes a part part whole, then subsequently a strip diagram as the child progresses through math. Many difficult concepts such as balanced equations can be taught with cuisenaire rods.
