Ahoy, mateys!
I’m Captain Kast-A-Line, your captain through the tumultuous waters that is teaching and homeschooling. I’ve got 25 years experience teaching and leading kids, in the classroom, at church, and at home. I have taught high school and first grade in public school, led the kids program at my church, and every job in between (coach, tutor, camp counselor).
Now as a mom of five, I’m passionate about creating resources that make learning fun for kids and simple for teachers and parents to use. Everything in my store is designed to lighten your load so you can spend less time managing—and more time teaching.

I found this list of Advent activities to teach kids about the true meaning of Christmas at At Home with Kids Blog Post and used it to create cards that I could put in the little drawers of our Advent Calendar. Teaching style
Teaching should be about making connections with our students/children. I believe they learn best when they know they're loved and cared for. Teaching and parenting can be stressful and sometimes it can feel like you don't ever get to decompress. My hope is these systems help take some of the stress off.
Awards & shining teacher moments
How else can you measure success, except by the impact you have on others? My first year of teaching first grade I had a table points system, students had to work with their table mates to earn points. Every table with 10 points by the end of the week would get popcorn at snack time. Well one student had a challenging time following directions and his table didn't have enough points, out of frustration he erased every table's points. I could have punished the individual student, I could have punished the class and made everyone start over. Instead, I walked up to the board and told my students I don't remember how many points everyone had. Some students looked like they were going to cry, others were upset with the student who erased the points. I then gave every table 10 pts, no matter if they had it before or not. I asked the kids if they knew what "Grace" meant. I explained grace is when you get something you didn't earn. It was a pivotal moment in our class, the culture shifted. Students began to show one another grace. Years later, parents still tell me their kids talk about grace and what it means.
