Experience

I served as an English language teacher in Japan for 7 years. I have a Bachelor in Education (primary teaching) with Japanese major. I graduated from the University of Queensland in 2014 and now teach permanently at Elanora State High School on the Gold Coast. I teach a variety of year levels in the following subject areas: Japanese, English, humanities, history and art. I have a creative flair and am very skilled at digital design. Before becoming a teacher, I owned my own photography business. This included not only taking photos but photoshopping them, restoring them and designing albums.

Teaching style

I believe that learning should be fun. I make my own resources for classes because it gives me a better sense of connection with the content, and I can deliver it much better that way. As a visual learning I am big on graphics. I use a range of clipart, illustrations and images to represent the concept that I am teaching. I rely on what is in the public domain to make this happen. I pay attention to detail and am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to presentation. I am of the belief that students will be more engaged when material if it is visually attractive.

My own education history

I studied a Bachelor of Education (primary teaching) online with the University of Southern Queensland.

Additional biographical information

I grew up on the Gold Coast, moved to Japan after finishing high school and returned to Australia shortly after starting a family. I enjoy photography and spending time with my kids.
