This lab lets students get their own samples of cells and view them under the microscope. They will compare plant cells (specifically celery) to animal cells (human skin/cheek cells). Included are 2 versions of the lab (COVID-19 precautions friendly), 1 Slides of pictures to expect, and a ReadMe explain specifics that worked well for me.
9 different science stations, engaging kids in the different parts and functions of cells. Tasks vary from comparing a model to an organelle, answering questions based on an article, to drawing a representation of plant and animal cells.
Use the mass and volume to calculate the object's density. A great lab to do when practicing measuring mass and volume, and discussing physical properties. Can be used as an assessment of skills.
Measure the speed of passing cars with your class using simple tools and the "stick" method. This is a good lab when talking about measuring speed or using the speed, distance, or time equations.
Put students in charge of their own learning. Have them ask the questions and let them research things that they and their classmates find interesting. This includes sample sets of questions (around 40 questions) that students usually have about cells as well as an answer document where your students can record what they find out.
Practice translation of MRNA to amino acids by playing BINGO! Students are given a random RNA sequences, which they have to translate using a Codon Chart. Use as a review before a quiz or as assessment itself.
