While talking about water pollution, my class did a mid-unit graphing activity. This was created to be a refresher on how to make a line and bar graph on paper. We did the graphing together as a class, and I helped them plot the points accurately, giving them tips along the way. The product is delivered as a Google Doc, so you may edit it as you need.
This lab lets students get their own samples of cells and view them under the microscope. They will compare plant cells (specifically celery) to animal cells (human skin/cheek cells). Included are 2 versions of the lab (COVID-19 precautions friendly), 1 Slides of pictures to expect, and a ReadMe explain specifics that worked well for me.
Use this foldable to help introduce parts of a microscope. Quick and easy to cut out. For an extra step, have student color coordinate the different part labels based on their function. The product is delivered as a Google Doc, so that you can edit as needed.
Easy to do labs showing the basics of lab safety, measuring out mass and volume, and evidence of chemical reactions. The lab has 2 parts, one using vinegar and baking soda, the other using vinegar and Calcium Carbonate. Part 2's reaction will have kids shrieking with excitement as they blow their tops. Both parts of this lab could be a part of a bigger science stations activity, if wanted. Disclaimer, you will need to find small containers with poppable lids. Link to online source included.
I used this lab in the beginning of the year when introducing scientific measurement. The students are asked to measure the height and shoe length of classmates. They then graph their data and answer basic analysis questions. Product is delivered as a Google folder, so both the document and spreadsheet are editable. Lab report is a Google doc, which can be printed out or assigned on Google Classroom. There is a Google Sheet template assigned that I had my students use to practice graphing on
Includes links to 5 videos of different chemical reactions. Have students write down what they noticed in the videos and justify that a chemical reaction occurred. Can be done as a whole class discussion, individually, or in small groups. Printable and online versions.
Have students mix together 3 chemicals with different physical appearances and observe what happens in the reaction. They can observe things like changes in temperature, color, foaming/ bubbling with gas production, change in pH, texture, ... This reaction is originally done by Flinn Scientific. I just tried to simplify their lab and make it easier to read for my middle schoolers Could be a small part of a bigger science stations activity.
Quick and easy foldable on body systems. Looking into some examples of cells, tissues, and organs in each, as well as each systems function. This one covers the Nervous, Circulator, Respiratory, and Digestive Systems. Printed based on an easily editable Google Slides so you may change things as you wish or even add other body systems.
This foldable was one option for how my students could present the necessary information for our introductory unit on the Scientific Method. This product is delivered as a Google Docs file that you can edit.
Practice using Position vs. Time (Speed) graphs. 4 slides cover drag and drop questions about these graphs. A link to Gigaphysics' website has students trying to match their mouse's speed to that of the graph, which can be quite a challenge!
Guiding questions that go along with the website Energy Skate Park by PhET. Useful when discussing Kinetic and Potential Energy and PoCoE. Also included is a bellwork that accompanies Energy Skate Park.
I used this Metric prefixes Foldable to help introduce the idea to my students. We used it for many in-class activities and worksheets, where I had the students use it as reference. I try to give them intuition about which way the decimal should be moving. The product is delivered as a google Doc so you may edit it as needed.
Examine the 6 Characteristics of Life (organization, growth and development, reproduction, response to stimuli, homeostasis, use of energy) by looking at how your favorite animal fits these characteristics. This research project has students researching their favorite animal to see how it meets all the 6 CoL. They have the option to create a Google Slides (template provided) or to do a collage on paper, if they are more artistic. The product is delivered as a Google Drive folder, with my examp
9 different science stations, engaging kids in the different parts and functions of cells. Tasks vary from comparing a model to an organelle, answering questions based on an article, to drawing a representation of plant and animal cells.
Using a map and the scale provided, estimate how many miles you will travel, the amount of time it will take, and the cost of gas. The goal of the assignment was to practice using a map's scale, but I also added the extra math calculations to push the relevance of this assignment. The product includes a map already labeled with the places, the Google Doc file if you would like to change anything, and a blank map that I used.
Use these examples to help reinforce the 6 Characteristics of Life: Organization, Growth and Development, Reproduction, Response to Stimuli, Homeostasis, and Use of Energy. I used this to do a group matching card-sort activity. They could also be used to provide relevant examples to class discussion or as an individual learner tool, like flash cards. There are 5 examples for each CoL. There are some examples that could fit for multiple CoL, but this is a good way to have students really dive d
This foldable can be used to provide the meaning of the 6 Characteristics of Life (Growth and Development, Reproductions, Homeostasis, Response to Stimuli, Organization, and Use of Energy) or to provide examples of each. Includes definitions and examples of each of the 6 CoL in humans.
I think it is helpful to look at real weather data when discussing weather. Even though we have a class weather station, it is not totally accurate. Luckily for us, there was a weather station across the street! For bellwork each day, I had the students check the weather station and record relevant weather info that we were learning about. After tracking the weather for 8 consecutive days, students really dove into the data and answered questions, hopefully discovering what happens when pres
