Why did it take Utah over 40 years to become a US state after becoming a US territory? One of the "roadblocks" to UT Statehood was that Utah had given women the right to vote. Between 1850 and 1896, viewpoints and reasoning for opinions changed within various groups. This activity allows students to use primary sources to see how these opinions changed and how women's suffrage prevented Utah from becoming a state for such a long time.
