Introduction to Surface Area
This is a simple but meaningful way to introduce your students to surface area using the inquiry method. Students will collaborate with a group to calculate the amount of paper used to cover a box using their previous knowledge of area. The included worksheet allows them to practice meaningful math writing to explain their procedures and understanding of the new concept of surface area. There is an additional worksheet for students to have individual practice finding the surface area of a box,

I taught 6th grade in elementary school and have also been an elementary school science specialist.
Teaching style
I think it's so important for students to find that what they're learning is relatable to them! I love helping them make connections to their lives and encourage collaboration. I have a strong desire for my students to foster critical thinking skills and like to do this through inquiry-based learning and project-based assessments. Most importantly, I believe every student has the ability to learn and succeed!
My own education history
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Science Education, Middle Grades.
