This is my 29th year of teaching.
I began in the lower grades - transition and 1st grade.
Then I spent three years teaching 3rd grade, 14 years teaching 6th grade, and the last few years I have gone back and forth between 4th and 5th grade.
Parents often ask how they can help their child with math homework. What better way then to have the steps of how to solve the problems.
The Homework Helper sheet goes step by step on how to convert a fraction to a decimal. Sometimes the numbers are easy to work with especially if they are factors of 10, 100, 1000,....
Other times the student needs to use division.
Hopefully the process I have written is easy to understand.
The worksheets include three examples of regrouping from ones to tens to hundreds to thousands. The examples include using the place value chart, as well as multiplication.
The second page has practice problems for the students to try on their own.
This end of year booklet can really be used for any grade level. I teach 4th grade so I geared it towards the students in my class. I also changed the grade level for a friend to gear it towards 6th graders going into the middle school. It is just a fun way for the students to pick aspects of the school year they really enjoyed and hope to remember. * You may also change the school year.
RDW model Word problems that involve multiplying a whole number and a fraction. The last problem involves two fractions with unlike denominators. I used as a review for our end of unit test. Great practice questions with labeling involved. The kids often forget to label!!!
Students will have to use their knowledge of adding and subtracting decimals to solve word problems involving money.
There is a problem that includes figuring out the sales tax. I did allow for different options.
I have often found that my students go home to do their homework and parents are unable to help them because they do not have the background knowledge of the skill being taught.
The two worksheet pages include very simple steps to simplifying a fraction. The first page is the algorithm going step by step through the process.
The second page includes picture models which I feel is very important too. Students need to see(a visual) how the fractions are equal.
Are you looking for an easy-to-use, already created lesson to help students who are just beginning to learn how to represent fractions as decimals? The slides are great to leave with a substitute too.Representing Fractions as Decimals is a set of seven slides that can be used as an easy resource for teachers and students.. The slides include a set math learning objective:"Today you will continue to read and write tenths and hundredths. You will represent tenths and hundredths as parts of an
Parents often ask me where they can find out how to help their children with math homework. What better way than to have the steps to solving a problem written out clearly. I have written the steps for putting numbers written in decimal form (under 1 whole) in order from least to greatest. Hopefully the steps will help you and your child.
