Hi, I’m Aerin, the teacher and creator behind Chalk & Seed. I’m a second grade teacher with over 15 years of experience in early elementary education, and second grade has always felt like home.
My journey began in a city school, teaching second grade general education, where I learned the power of responsive, skill-based instruction. I later spent five years as a special education teacher in a suburban district, working in co-taught classrooms across first, second, and third grade. That time deepened my understanding of how students learn and strengthened my commitment to differentiation and purposeful teaching.
Now back in second grade general education in a co-teach classroom, I draw on all of that experience to create calming, intentional tools that help you stay organized, support your students, and feel proud of your space. Every Chalk & Seed resource is designed to be both beautiful and functional - always with the goal of planting skills with purpose.

Teaching style
My teaching style is firm, fair, and deeply student-centered. I rely on structure, strong routines, and skill-based instruction- but always with flexibility and warmth. I’m especially passionate about phonics and helping students learn to read through clear, targeted support that aligns with exactly what they need.
Differentiation is at the heart of everything I do. I believe in meeting each student where they are, using data to guide instruction, and creating calm, focused learning environments where all children can thrive — at their own pace.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I don’t measure success by awards, I measure it by moments:
– The student who believed in themselves as a reader for the first time.
– The parent who said, “My child finally feels understood.”
– The quiet pride in a classroom that runs with purpose, because every system has intention behind it.
My proudest moments aren’t flashy — they’re rooted in growth, clarity, and connection. That’s what I bring into my classroom and every resource I create.
My own education history
I hold a B.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications and an M.S. in Early Childhood Special Education. While my graduate studies laid the foundation, most of what I know about meeting the needs of diverse learners came from years in the classroom - observing closely, adapting daily, and learning alongside my students.
That real-world experience fuels my belief in responsive teaching and drives the creation of resources that are practical, purposeful, and built for real classrooms.

Outside the classroom, I’m someone who’s always creating- whether it’s designing a calm and beautiful learning space, building resources that actually help, or capturing stories through travel, photography, or design.
I’m passionate about meaningful education, but also about exploring the world, connecting with new cultures, and making life feel a little more intentional - from the classroom to my kitchen counter. You’ll find that same spirit in everything I share here: thoughtful, clear, and created with heart.
