SOAPStone is a diverse strategy that can be used to dissect the work of professional writers as well as help students develop their own writing. This FREE product consists of two slide shows that break down the SOAPStone acronym and provides questions to guide students through the analysis or writing process. The slides are intended to be printed out and used as classroom posters, but they are also perfect to use as visuals during an introductory lesson. If you enjoy this resource, you and your
I created this resource for my personal use, but after using it for a few weeks, I realized that my students could find a use for it as well! In this assignment, students will compose a quest story. I normally assign this after my classes read The Epic of Gilgamesh, but it can also be used to aid understanding in any type of quest story or hero journey. (Think Odyssey, Illiad, Beowulf, etc..)
Includes a rubric.
I use this essay to help motivate my juniors and seniors to apply for college. On the assignment sheet, I provide a list of five topics for the student to choose from. If the student is considering applying for a college that already requires a topic, or if they are applying for a scholarship that designates a topic, I allow the student to kill two birds with one stone. A rubric for grading is also included.
