I love teaching The Iliad, but I have always struggled with an easy way to introduce the major knowledge required in understanding the epic poem. This is why I created The Iliad Webquest. It has been student tested for two years, and my students come away from it prepared to tackle The Iliad. This editable Google Slide is a guided research project. Directions, guiding questions, and research links are included in the speaker notes to keep students on track, and images are already provided to

These guided reading questions are designed to challenge your students! I love teaching Elie Wiesel, but I do not love how easy it was for my students to Google the answers to the chapter questions I inherited from a co-teacher years ago. These worksheets use higher-order thinking questions to encourage your students to REALLY dig deep into Wiesel's words. This source includes: Questions for each chapter,An answer key, andAn attention-grabbing quote at the top of each guide. This resource uses pa
This resource is intended to your students reach a deeper level of analysis with The Great Gatsby with Say, Mean, Matter. This method of quote analysis works well because it forces students to look past a simple rephrasing of the quotes and challenges them to analyze how the quote plays into major themes and the novel as a whole. Students will read each quote, explain what the quote means, then explain how the quote matters to the greater concepts of the novel.

After reading the chapter, students are to consider each quote in context (SAYS), paraphrase what the quote MEANS, and explain how the quote MATTERS to the story or how it plays into various themes. Are you ready to host a book speed date of your own? If you have been in the classroom long, you know that one of the major roadblocks to a smooth student independent reading program is that students often do not take the time to explore the books that are right in front of them, leading to indecision and lack of interest in reading. Hosting a book tasting can help solve that problem.
Included in this resource:
- Book Speed Date Trifold Menu
- Table Numbers

This is a descriptive writing activity I use with Legos. The kids tend to really respond to it... the building part, not the response sheet. :)
This activity uses Lego building pieces to improve descriptive writing skills. It can also serve as an ice breaker.

I use this essay to help motivate my juniors and seniors to apply for college. On the assignment sheet, I provide a list of five topics for the student to choose from. If the student is considering applying for a college that already requires a topic, or if they are applying for a scholarship that designates a topic, I allow the student to kill two birds with one stone. A rubric for grading is also included.
