Having students create their own world is a great way to encourage creativity as well as consider many different aspects of our society. This is a very high-interest writing assignment for students as it gives kids the ability to make up their own rules! This would be a great project to incorporate with a social studies class as well. This project can be easily adapted for students of different abilities- I have done this with all abilities of students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.

This PowerPoint presentation on the topic of bullying includes information about the people involved in bullying scenarios (bully, victim, bystander), scenarios for discussion, and ideas to break the cycle of bullying. This presentation is appropriate for older students and could also be used for professional development.

This PowerPoint presentation covers basic poetry elements, providing both definitions and examples. Elements include line, stanza, rhyme, rhythm, onomatopoeia, and alliteration. Poetry Types have been added as well including concrete, haiku, acrostic, elegy, ode, narrative, and lyric. Slides can also be printed and hung in the classroom as posters.

This PowerPoint presentation provides students with a brief introduction to the gods of Olympus including Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Aphrodite, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Demeter, Artemis, Hephaestus, and Hermes. This is a great way to begin introducing students to the basic facts about the gods prior to an in depth study of Greek mythology. Slides can also be printed and hung as posters in the classroom during the course of study.

This research project encourages students to delve into their own personal family history and learn more about the culture they come from. This project teaches research skills, interview skills, MLA format, and creativity. It is easily adaptable for students of different ages and skill levels.
