Growth! A Plant Research Lab
A research lab that encourages kids to design their own experiment on bean or pea plants, collect their own data, and explain their results. Students will come up with a question, hypothesis, procedure, and data collection method to see the effects of their chosen variable on their plants. Skills practiced include organizing data, differentiating between qualitative and quantitative information, and analyzing data to draw conclusions. Teaching style
My materials work best with plenty of hands-on experience. I try to do a lab at least once a week in my science classes, because it's all well and good to know what a precipitate is, but to cause one to form is an educational moment you won't forget in a hurry. Many of the presentations in this shop come with demonstrations using household objects as well, to drive home physical concepts.
