About the store
I have taught chemistry for over 30 years in both the UK and the United States, including public schools in Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Colorado. My resources are not state-specific and are designed to work across a wide range of classroom contexts. As I embark on my final years as an educator in the public school system, I want to share a highlight reel of the practices and activities that have worked best for me over time. These are the lessons and labs that consistently engaged students, supported understanding, and held up in real classrooms. All of the activities in this store are original, textbook-free resources developed by me and refined through years of use with mixed-ability, real-world classrooms. They are designed to be flexible, inquiry-driven, and focused on helping students think like chemists rather than simply follow procedures. I hope you enjoy using these activities as much as I have enjoyed teaching with them.

Stoichiometry Laboratory Challenge –Engineering& Design Inquiry-Based Lab

The Stoichiometry Challenge is a full week of scaffolded, inquiry-based instruction designed to make learning stoichiometry a stimulating and engaging process. Students take on the role of chemical engineers, using engineering design and problem-solving skills to plan, produce, and evaluate a chemical synthesis rather than following a traditional recipe-style lab. This activity emphasizes engineering thinking, real-life skills, and decision-making as students work through each stage of the p

ICE MELT DETECTIVES - Inquiry Based Moles vs Mass Investigation

Ice Melt Detectives – Inquiry Lab Exploring Molar Mass & Real-World ChemistryIce Melt Detectives is an inquiry-based, real-world chemistry investigation that invites students to explore how different de-icing salts affect ice melting when equal masses are used. What begins as a simple comparison quickly generates “what if?” questions, student-designed trials, and rich discussion—especially with lower-ability and mixed-ability classes. Rather than starting with calculations, this lab builds co

PRE LAB STOICHIOMETRY WORKOUT - Differentiated Practice and Mastery Quiz

🧪 Pre-Lab Stoichiometry Workout | Differentiated Practice & Mastery QuizThis scaffolded stoichiometry workout is designed to build confidence and competence before students enter the lab. Designed for students confidence to increase over a week of lessons, problems progress intentionally from foundational skills to challenging real-world applications, allowing students to develop fluency step-by-step without relying on a textbook. Students begin with molar mass calculations, move through mol

Teaching style

I truly believe that students learn best through hands on experience. I have written my own curriculum which incorporates hands on activities at some level in almost every class. I have over 20 years experience in a wide variety of classrooms both in the USA and UK and I know what gets the students excited about science. Students have to feel confident handling the equipment that we use in the lab and through a developmental series of lab activities their expertise and confidence grows. Through exploration they learn how to think and analyze. High school chemistry should be any students favorite class! They get to see lots of cool stuff and investigate the world around them. I make my lessons fun, interesting, varied and relevant. Each unit incorporates lots of critical thinking activities and familiar applications. Kids leave my classroom tired but eager to see what's coming next!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been a student teacher mentor for many years. I have piloted new teaching strategies from research facilities in my schools and cascaded the information through the science department by team teaching and demonstrations. I have also served on several exam boards as a marker.

My own education history

I was educated in England. I graduated from Leeds University in 1993 with a BSc in Chemistry. I enrolled in a post grad teacher training course also at Leeds University in 1993 and have never stopped teaching since!! BORN TO BE A TEACHER!!!!
