About the store

Experience

I have taught Middle school art for 1 year and elementary art for 9 years in Baltimore, Maryland. I am a retired elementary art teacher from Northern Virginia with 37 years teaching experience.

Teaching style

I involve my students in each lesson by asking questions, playing art games, having students circle important parts of paintings and keeping their interest through all parts of the lesson. After class discussions, I always demonstrate each step of the project. While I am demonstrating, I constantly ask questions to check for understanding. During work time, I circulate around the room, assisting those who need help and provde gentle reminders to students who may have forgotten a step in the process. I praise those students who show respect, responsibility and safety as part of our school's positive behavior program.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have had two articles published in School Arts Magazine: Houses Made of Clay, January 2010 and Slab Leaf Bowls, October 2012.
