About the store

Experience

Chemical Sales Representative for Olin Chemicals and Culligan Water Treatment, Legal Secretary. Began teaching in Loudoun County, Virginia in 1986 (10 years.) Moved to Wyoming in 1996 and continued teaching in Sheridan, Wyoming. Teaching Chemistry I and AP Chemistry was my passion, and I retired from the classroom in June of 2019.

Teaching style

As a gift for my students I created a video for every day of school for an Academic High School Chemistry Course. All of these videos are available for free on YouTube on the chezschool channel and they are also linked through the chezchem.com website. It is very organized and easy to follow, with an anticipatory set every day. Old school with a twist of inquiry. Students gain a solid foundation to be ready for the requirements of both Advanced Placement Chemistry as well as preparation for an students will be ready to take any college chemistry entrance exam which will provide the evidence that they are ready for a college class of General Chemistry I. A major focus is on chemical nomenclature. Once nomenclature is taught in Topic 4, most often names are given instead of formulas so that students are always practicing the chemical language with The Journey Chez Chem. This program was designed for home school students.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Siemens Award for AP science teacher for 2007-08, the American Chemical Society in Wyoming - Vernon Bulgrin High School Chemistry teacher of the year in 2010, and the Arch Coal Golden Apple Award 2010 and 2012.

My own education history

BA Chemistry Florida Atlantic University, BS Biology Florida Atlantic University, BS Science Education, University of Maryland, Maryland, and MA Environmental Biology Hood College, Maryland. Taught Biology, Chemistry, and AP Chem in Loudoun County, Virginia for 10 years, then moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. I have been privileged to primarily teach Chemistry, and AP Chem for 21 years with an occasional year teaching Biology and Physical Science.

Additional biographical information

The beginning and ending of each lesson has short clips of nature and music to help lighten the very dry and serious nature of chemistry. It is my great fortune to live "where the antelope" roam." Originally, however, I grew up in Europe with a Viennese mother and an active duty military father but my passion for horses drew me to Northeastern Wyoming.
