My belief is the teacher is the facilitator. The job of the facilitator is to bring out the best in the student. This happens when the student is allowed to bring discovery into the learning experience. High level critical thinking skills become engaged and retention of the experience is at a premium. Not always possible each day, but this has always been the focus of my teaching.

Having both Public School and Montessori teaching experience I understand the huge value in self directed learning. My heart goes out to the many teachers with oversized classrooms trying to just do the basics. I began the journey with scripts in my first year of teaching. I wrote ten short two character plays and the students ranging in age from 6-9 went nuts. Better readers were sitting down with low readers, each student taking a part. When many asked me to perform the scripts I knew I was on to something. The skills far exceed just learning how to read. My students were learning how to read and also learning how to make friendships as well as building their self esteem.
