A lot of the time I use this for anything students turn in for their science journal. I find it to be very clear and I always pass this out at the beginning of each quarter so the students know what they expectation are before the quarter begins.
4th - 8th
Basic Principles, General Science, Physical Science
I did this activity with my class during my student teaching. It is really fun for the kids (you have do create bags of ice for the kids and make blue ice cubes). The kids get to experience heat transfer and reflect on it.
This lab can be used for many different purposes in science. I have left it has a word document so you can change it for your classroom. Many time I used it to find density and measuring the size difference when the gummy bears were placed in water.
5th - 8th
Basic Principles, General Science, Physical Science
Here is a complete list of the vocabulary words the common core requires the students to know. I placed them on a PDF to help other teachers with planning units and for the rest of the year.
This lab is based on the food coloring moving up the celery through the xylem. The students will be able to see the xylem in action and notice that water moves throughout the plant.

This graphic organizer is for plant growth. I always just print two copies. One with the answers for when I give the notes and then white out the second one and copy it for the class. It deals with how plants grow to the sunlight and how long plants live for.
Here is a guided notes/study guide of simple machines (types of levers). I used this to help my students review before their quiz but I have used it as guided notes. There are two pages: Page 1= answer sheet.....page 2= Guided notes.
If you do not like the guided notes part, you can white out the answer sheet to your liking. Enjoy!
I use this with my students when they are learning about prime factorization. You can use it as homework, classwork, pre-assessment, or pop question to review.
This is the word wall I used for "Properties of Matter". I like to create each unit with a different shape or picture so the students know when we switch units. Enjoy!
4th - 8th
General Science, Other (Science), Physical Science
These are notes on plants that are considered nonvascular. All I do is print it off.....use white out....then copy them for the students...I always have the answers and they can fill in the boxes as we go over notes.
This powerpoint is on the states of matter. I use this as an introduction to the states of matter to get the students engaged. You can edit the powerpoint to suit you. I use this to help start conversation inside the classroom also.
Students will be creating a booklet on the organ systems within the human body. It is in a word document so you can modify it for what fits you. I place the end results on my bulletin boards and the kids love it!
This is a great way to get to know your students on the first day! Even now, it would be a great way to get to know your students if you are a long term sub or you want to know more about your students!
Contains osmosis, diffusion, cells. Good for the test that I created for the students. Has a lot of information dealing with living things standards for 6th graders.

This is weekly quiz I give for percents. It is the beginning of percents (after starting ratios). It is a good test to see if they are understanding how to find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.
I used this to go along with my Cell Test I have on my page too. IF the students completed this study guide, they would do VERY well on the test. My students have never had science consistently and after this study guide they really had a good grasp on cells for the test.
