I have been a mathematics instructor for 24 years.
My experience includes teaching all levels of high school mathematics, experience with adult education and GED, and currently I teach mathematics at the college level.
This powerpoint takes students through natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, and real numbers.
Please check out the preview that shows how the powerpoint demonstrates rational numbers are the quotient of two integers and how that relates to decimals.
The end of the powerpoint takes the class through some classification problems. The class is given a number and they state the sets of numbers to which that number belongs.
I have found this power
This is always a challenging topic for Calculus students. My approach is to introduce the definition, draw a picture of the definition and then have the students work through this worksheet.
The worksheet starts by asking students to find values of delta for given values of epsilon using a linear function. This exploration helps students understand what is happening before they are asked to find the value of delta in terms of epsilon on the next part of the worksheet.
Next the students explo
The focus of this handout is modeling real world situations with linear equations and graphs.
This handout contains information on finding the slope, independent and dependent variables, equation of a line, graphing linear equations, and finding the equation of a line given two points. It also has four examples for students to work through or for you to work through with the class.
This worksheet asks the student to graph a piecewise function in four pieces. The function includes linear and quadratic equations and has discontinuity.
The students are then asked to find five different limits including a limit from the right and the limit as x approaches a value not shown on the graph.
This document is great for group work, a quiz, or going through an example with the class.
This document asks students to solve problems using the distance formula, the formula for simple interest, and the formula for perimeter of a rectangle.
It can be used as homework, guided practice, or group work.
Skills required include:
understanding variables
substitution
order of operations
choosing a correct label
solving two step linear equations
