About the store
Welcome! Class Pet is home to fun and engaging resources that support preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade, special needs and homeschool curriculum themes. My background and heart is in the classroom where I began my career teaching grades 1-3. I transitioned to becoming a full time children’s book author and illustrator when my children were born 25 years ago. Now, I educate and inspire children through my books and and other fun activity based products…. I am so lucky to have a career that so perfectly blends all of my passions! I began my Teacher’s Pay Teachers store during the pandemic to help teachers and parents support children during challenging times. I hope you will find something in my shop that enhances your curriculum themes and will serve to instill a sense of wonder and passion for learning in the children you teach! Learn more about my books on my website: www.marthazschock.com * I have an ongoing list of themes and ideas for future products. If you need coloring pages or activities for a theme I don’t have up yet, please reach out… I will be happy to add it to the list!

Teaching style

My teaching style, whether I am in the classroom, or creating children’s books is to empower and excite children of all ages and stages to become lifelong learners and to ignite a spark of curiosity, wonder, and compassion for the world and those around them.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Although my books and teaching have won various grants awards, I am most touched by the small moments… When a struggling student perseveres and has a light bulb moment. Is there anything better than that smile? When a former student contacts me years later to tell me how I inspired them and how they have made choices in their lives because of their time with me. When a parent wrties to me and tells me that their child won’t go to bed without reading a book of mine…. Every night for years! When my first book, “Journey Around Cape Cod and the Islands from A to Z” was published, my students gave me a round of applause. It was the best praise I have ever received! When a teacher makes a class book with student work inspired by one of my books. When I am at an author event, and a Dad comes up and recites one of my books becuase he has read it to his child 5,000 times!

My own education history

• Bachelor's Degree from Connecticut College with a major in studio art and a minor in psychology. • Masters in Teaching from Lesley University with certification in Elementary and Special Education. • Illustration, Design, and Pottery classes at the Rhode Island School of Design... just for fun!

Additional biographical information

I live on Cape Cod, MA with my husband, two daughters (when they aren’t at school or traveling the world), and my oldest daughter’s two cats. I have an identical twin sister. I named my shop, “Class Pet” and featured a cat in the logo because I think that a cat would make the perfect class pet. One even wandered into my class one morning! It was nice while it lasted (:
