Experience

I’m a secondary ELA and leadership teacher with 20+ years experience, passionate about creating structured, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking and student voice. All resources from Classic Prep Teaching are classroom-tested and designed to be practical, engaging, and easy to use. I am currently teaching 9th grade ELA, along with Leadership 9/10 and Leadership 11/12 elective courses and ASB Leadership. I know the struggle of finding curriculum for Leadership elective courses and ASB Leadership-so I created my own to share with other educators to help YOU!

Teaching style

My teaching style emphasizes clear structure, intentional planning, and student voice. I create lessons that are organized, flexible, and designed to help students think critically while taking ownership of their learning.

My own education history

I have a Master’s in English and a BA in Journalism & English Language Arts Teaching, with 20+ years teaching grades 7–12. I’ve worked with students of all abilities — from credit-deficient learners to advanced achievers — and design classroom-tested lessons that are structured, engaging, and student-centered.

Additional biographical information

In addition to classroom teaching, I’ve coached cheer, track, and cross-country, helping students develop teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills both on and off the field. This experience complements my teaching philosophy: I prioritize student voice, personal growth, and real-world skill development in all my lessons. I am also the ASB advisor at the high school I am teaching at. I know the struggle of a new ASB advisor trying to figure out to balance teaching with advising, so I began compiling my ASB resources to help new and veteran ASB advisors and Leadership teachers with their curriculum and programs. I am a mom of three girls-the oldest is in college, the middle is about to graduate high school, and the youngest "graduating" from elementary school. I have been happily married for 23 years to a social studies teacher.
