Teaching style

Sadie Hoyt is a classical pianist and educator with over 18 years of experience in teaching and performance. She is the founder and visionary behind Classical Encounters—a curriculum and resource platform that helps listeners of all ages engage deeply with the classical music tradition. Sadie holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Hillsdale College and a Master’s in Music Performance from The Catholic University of America. Her work blends poetic storytelling with academic depth, crafting lessons that guide children, families, and adult learners through the richly ordered musical worlds of the Western canon. Each lesson is designed as a structured invitation to listen, understand, and appreciate the distinct beauty of a composer, era, or masterpiece. She has taught music in various settings including private studios and schools, and previously served as an education assistant at the Pittsburgh Opera, where she created educational materials adopted by more than 100 middle schools. Sadie’s goal with Classical Encounters is to broaden the reach of classical music—to nourish imagination, contemplation, and emotional depth—and to help learners of all ages enter into meaningful, joyful conversations with the greatest works in the classical tradition.

My own education history

Sadie Hoyt is a classical pianist, educator, and curriculum designer with over 18 years of teaching and performance experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Hillsdale College and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from The Catholic University of America, where she specialized in chamber music and collaborative piano. Sadie has performed in festivals and programs across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and has worked extensively as a collaborative pianist with singers and instrumentalists. She has taught in private studios, schools, and arts organizations, and previously served as an education assistant at a professional opera company, creating music education materials used in classrooms nationwide. Through her curriculum company, Classical Encounters, Sadie creates academically rich, beautifully designed resources that help students of all ages listen to classical music with greater understanding, imagination, and joy.
