Psalm 23 in Words of One Syllable
Newer readers can manage this psalm better because multisyllabic words are broken by hyphens. The Lord is my shep-herd.
This relieves you of the pressure to teach sight words, while still giving your students real meaty content. Enjoy!

Encourage reading fluency in an authentic way--have the student read to a sibling or friend! Set the goal, track beginning and ending dates. Allows for creativity on the part of the child to draw the happy face.

Combine ELA and Math! The child draws a happy face each time s/he reads to another child or sibling; but this version supplies the ten-frame for the child. Makes counting a snap! Lines provided for goal, beginning date, and ending date.
For novels, adapt as one chapter equals one happy face.
