Experience

This is a place to find resources to engage students you might have found difficult to engage in the past. I create enrichment resources for students who need to extend their thinking, and inquiry-based projects for all learners. My heart lies in the gamification products that I've created, like Avatars, Random Events and Leaderboards, which are transformational in the classroom, helping you engage reluctant learners and gifted learners alike. Teaching style

I run a gamified classroom, which means that throughout the course of the year my students and I are running what some might compare to a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Students earn XP and GP for positive behaviours, and are fined GP for negative behaviours. They use GP to purchase real-world powers, such as a whole-class brain break or the use of a special chair or fidget. I see myself more as captain of a ship, navigating the fraught waters of life with a talented crew who are seeking the same destination as myself: the Ocean of Accomplishment via the Straight of Hard Work and up the Inlet of Having Fun.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am the enrichment coordinator at my school, as well as the robotics coach. I won Coach of the Year award at the First Lego League Provincial Robotics Tournament in 2023.

My own education history

I have an undergraduate diploma in Pedagogical Sciences from the University of Amsterdam, a B.A with minors in English and visual arts from the University of the Fraser Valley and a B.Ed from the University of British Columbia.

Additional biographical information

I have been working as a teacher and developing my own teaching resources since 2008. I started out teaching English to international university students, and developed my own method for teaching grammar that has been used all over the world by various students and teachers. (See https://learning2grow.org/7-types-of-sentence-fragments/ ). Since becoming a grade 5 classroom teacher, I am known by my colleagues as a creative lesson planner who makes resources from scratch. I do love creating documents and I abhor "busy-work" worksheets, so I make resources that most consider to be "out of the box." My colleagues have been telling me for years that I should start selling my things on TpT. I finally took their advice!
